Description
Decaf coffee beans from Colombia, sugarcane process, roasted in Cape Town. The point of this one is simple: it still tastes like coffee.
Decaffeination removes most of the caffeine but never all of it. A small amount remains in every cup. If you avoid caffeine entirely for medical reasons, this is not the coffee for you.
What it tastes like
Cocoa and toffee. Clean, round, and gentle enough after supper. It does not have the thin, papery quality people expect from decaf.
Why the sugarcane process matters
Most decaf is stripped with solvents, and it tastes like it. The sugarcane process uses ethyl acetate derived from fermented sugarcane, and it is far kinder to what was in the bean to begin with.
That is the whole reason we chose these decaf coffee beans rather than a cheaper lot. Decaf drinkers are usually people who have given up on decaf.
How to brew these decaf coffee beans
Exactly as you would the caffeinated version. Espresso: 18–20 g in, 36–40 g out. Filter or plunger: 15 g per cup.
Decaf beans are a little more brittle after processing, so if your grinder is adjustable you may want it a notch coarser than usual. Taste it first; adjust once.
Sizes and grind

How fresh
Roasted every week, to order. Your bag goes on the next roast day after you order. Delivered countrywide by The Courier Guy, or collect free in Cape Town.
Who buys it
People who like coffee and have been told to cut down. People who want a cup at nine at night. Pregnant customers, and people whose doctor has had a word with them.
Almost all of them have been disappointed by decaf before, which is the only reason we are fussy about which lot we buy.
There is a capsule version of this coffee too, and our brewing guide covers getting the best from it.
