Description

Brazilian coffee beans from the Cerrado, roasted medium in small batches in Cape Town. This is our house coffee, and the bag most people come back for.

What it tastes like

Chocolate first, then roasted almond, finishing on marzipan. Low acidity, round, with enough body to stand up in milk rather than disappear into it.

If you drink a cappuccino or a flat white every morning, this is the one. If you take it black, it is forgiving — it does not punish you for a slightly wrong grind.

Why Cerrado

The Cerrado is high, flat and dry, and it ripens a crop evenly. That evenness is what makes these Brazilian coffee beans consistent from bag to bag, which matters more day to day than any single spectacular cup.

How to brew these Brazilian coffee beans

Espresso: 18–20 g in, 36–40 g out, around 25–30 seconds. Filter or plunger: 15 g per cup. Moka pot: fill the basket level and do not tamp.

It takes milk well and it takes a slightly wrong grind well, which is why it is the bag we recommend to people setting up a new machine.

Own a grinder? Order whole bean. Coffee starts losing its aroma within minutes of grinding, so a cheap grinder at home beats the finest grind done a week ago.

How fresh

We roast every week and roast to order. Your bag goes on the next roast day after you order and is packed the same morning — days old when it reaches you, not months.
